#2411 $450
Belgium tape lace jacket, 1920s
For many collectors, the love affair with vintage clothing began with period textiles, whose subtle beauty is not found in contemporary copies. Hand-assembled lace, with its slightly uneven texture, excites the eye more than a flat machine made copy.
The cream-colored lace jacket is hand assembled using straight tapes, shaped princess lace tapes, and fancy braided tapes. The patterns of tape are connected with hand-knotted fill work. The sleeves have cuffs that can be extended to accommodate long arms, like those of my manikin.
The cardigan style is so versatile. You can wear it open as a jacket or closed as a blouse—there are small snaps in front. Wear the jacket with jeans or pair it with a long skirt and sandals for a romantic summer evening. The jacket's crisp, clean lines will always attract admiring glances.
Because the shape of the garment is built-in with the hand assembly of the individual motifs, there are no unsightly seams. Hand-assembled lace pieces have a unique beauty that transcends the function of the garment. However you wear the jacket, it will stand out as a treasure of costume art.
The condition is excellent. It is clean and ready to wear.
The size is marked 34.
It measures: 36" bust; 32" waist; 38" hip; 24 1/2" sleeve length, including the cuff; and 22" from shoulder to hem.
