Handmade Valenciennes lace bonnet, mid-late 19th century
Some of the finest work of the needle arts was lavished on garments for infants. This labor of love, an heirloom, should be passed on to future generations. It can be a treasured heirloom in your family.
This endearing baby's bonnet is fashioned from alternating bands of handmade Valenciennes lace and hand-embroidered batiste. The circular back, hand embroidered with padded satin stitch and open work, is outlined with a scalloped border.
Three rows of Valenciennes ruffles outline the face of the baby. The bonnet is completely handsewn. The size can be adjusted with the thread drawstrings found along the bottom and the brim.
The condition is excellent.
The bonnet is 6 1/2" from front to back.
